Les voix de la justice et de la paix doivent pouvoir s’exprimer

Depuis plusieurs jours, des rassemblements pour la paix et pour la justice entre israéliens et palestiniens sont interdits par les préfectures. À Clermont-Ferrand, les Jeunes communistes se sont vus interdire un rassemblement appelant à la paix et au cessez-le-feu au titre que celui-ci risquait d’entraîner des risques de troubles à l’ordre public. Pire, la préfecture considère que la position du MJCF selon laquelle “une paix juste est nécessaire pour la Palestine” pourrait s’apparenter à une apologie du terrorisme.À Poitiers, c’est un rassemblement de plusieurs organisations progressistes, avec pour mot d’ordre la justice et la paix qui a été interdit pour les mêmes raisons. Dans la foulée, la responsable du MJCF86 s’est vue infligée une amende pour avoir distribué des tracts sur le sujet sur la voie publique. À Lille, c’est le secrétaire départemental de la CGT qui a été interpellé au petit matin, chez lui, par des policiers pour “apologie du terrorisme” car l’UD CGT Nord avait appelé à un rassemblement pour la paix. Ces situations sont inacceptables dans une démocratie. Elles représentent un véritable danger pour la liberté d’expression et pour la liberté de manifester. Avec ces censures, le gouvernement joue un jeu très dangereux et risque de créer un embrasement en France. Considérer comme antisémite ou potentiellement terroriste toute position de paix incluant le respect des droits du peuple palestinien-reconnus par l’ONU- est une honte et revient à criminaliser toute une partie des organisations progressistes. Ces discours alimentent aussi le complotisme et l’antisémitisme. Plus que jamais, la situation appelle à un règlement politique, qui passe par l’arrêt des morts sur des civils, le respect du droit international et humanitaire. Cela implique la reconnaissance d’un État palestinien et la fin de la colonisation. Cette voix ne doit pas être censurée. Le MJCF continuera d’appeler aux rassemblements pour une paix juste et durable entre israéliens et palestiniens

The voices of peace and justice must be able to express themselves.

For the past couple of days, protests outside prefectures demanding justice and peace between Israelis and Palestinians have been banned.

The young communists of Clermont-Ferrand organised a protest calling for peace and a ceasefire that was banned by the prefecture because according to them, it would lead to a disturbance of the public order.

Even worse, the prefecture sees the MJCF’s position  demanding “a fair and necessary peace for Palestine” as advocating for terrorism.

For the same reasons, a protest led by several progressive organisations was banned in Poitiers. Once again, the watchword was “justice and peace”.

Right after that, the leader of the young communists of Poitiers got a fine for having handed leaflets for Palestine.

At daybreak, the leader of the CGT of Lille was arrested, at his home, because the CGT of Lille called for a protest demanding peace. That was judged as promoting terrorism.

As a democracy, we can’t accept these situations.

They’re a real danger for freedom of speech and freedom of protest.

The government plays a very dangerous game by censoring these calls for peace and justice, highly increasing the risk of public unrest.

Categorizing every call for peace and the respect for the rights of palestinian people -recognised by the UN- as antisemitic or supposedly terroristic is a shame and basically criminalizes most progressive organisations. This debate also fuels antisemitism and conspiracy theories.

More than ever, this situation calls for a political settlement, which requires an end to civilian casualties and respect for international and humanitarian law.

That also includes the recognition of the state of Palestine and the end of colonisation. The MJCF won’t stop calling for protests for a fair and sustainable peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
