Sultana Khaya est une défenseuse des droits humains sahraouie qui travaille sur le droit à l’autodétermination du peuple sahraoui et sur le droit des femmes sahraouies en territoire occupé. La défenseure des droits humains préside la Ligue pour la défense des droits de l’Homme et contre le pillage des ressources naturelles à Boujdour. Dans les territoires occupés, Sultana Khaya est une éminente personnalité en première ligne contre l’occupation marocaine.

Elle et sa famille sont de fait assignées à résidence depuis plus de 10 mois à Boujdour, au Sahara occidental. Les autorités ne l’ont toujours pas inculpée. Le 12 mai dernier, des dizaines de membres des forces de sécurité, le visage masqué, ont fait irruption à son domicile, l’ont agressée, ont tenté de la violer et ont violé sa sœur.

Le Sahara occidental est encore un des derniers territoire non-autonome d’Afrique selon l’ONU, sous occupation militaire par le régime marocain. Le peuple sahraoui, dans ces conditions, ne bénéficie d’aucune protection face à un occupant aux méthodes illégales et inhumaines, qui profite de son impunité pour bafouer les droits humains et réprimer les Sahraouis. La communauté internationale reste encore inactive face aux exactions de la puissance colonisatrice.

Le MJCF, à l’instar de nombreuses ONG telles qu’Amnesty International, demande la levée de l’assignation à résidence de Sultana et de sa famille, et l’ouverture sans délai d’une enquête sur la tentative de viol, le viol et l’agression dont elles ont été victimes.

Les autorités doivent respecter la dignité, le respect des droits humains et assurer d’urgence la sécurité de Sultana et de sa famille.

Le MJCF revendique la fin de l’occupation marocaine et la mise en place du référendum d’autodétermination du Sahara Occidental qui doit être organisé depuis plus de 27 ans.

Western Sahara: Justice and freedom for Sultana Khaya

Sultana Khaya is a Sahrawi human rights defender who works on the rights of self-determination of the Sahrawi people and on the rights of Sahrawi women in occupied territory. She leads the League for the defense of human rights and against the looting of natural resources in Boujdour. In the occupied territories, Sultana Khaya is a prominent figure on the front line against the Moroccan occupation.

She and her family have been under house arrest for more than 10 months in Boujdour, in Western Sahara. The authorities still have not charged her. On May 12, dozens of security forces with their faces covered broke into her home, assaulted her, attempted to rape her and raped her sister.

Western Sahara is still one of the last not independent territories in Africa according to the UN, under military occupation by the Moroccan regime. The Saharawi people, in these conditions, do not benefit from any protection against an occupier using illegal and inhumane methods, who takes advantage of their impunity to violate human rights and repress the Saharawis. The international community is still inactive in the face of the atrocities of the colonizing power.

The MJCF, like many NGOs such as Amnesty International, demands the lifting of the house arrest of Sultana and her family, and the opening without delay of an investigation into the attempted rape, the rape and the assault on them.

The authorities have to respect human rights, dignity and urgently need to ensure the safety of Sultana and her family.

The MJCF demands the end of the Moroccan occupation and the establishment of the referendum on self-determination in Western Sahara, which must be organized for more than 27 years.
